The Easter school holidays give UK families two weeks to travel together. In 2027, Easter also comes just a few weeks after Ramadan and Eid, so you can perform Umrah in the blessed month of Shawwal, when the Haram is much quieter than in Ramadan.

Islamic dates depend on the moon sighting. School dates change by council – for example, Birmingham's Easter holiday is 26 March to 11 April 2027.

Easter Umrah 2027 Visa – Important Information

This is the most important thing to know before you book Easter Umrah in 2027. Saudi Arabia's Umrah visa season for 2026–27 ends before most UK schools close for Easter:

• Umrah visa: the last day to enter Saudi Arabia is 23 March 2027, and you must leave by 7 April 2027.
• Tourist eVisa: British passport holders can get a Saudi tourist eVisa online and perform Umrah with it outside the Hajj period. This is the visa most families will use for Easter 2027.
• Umrah permit: with any visa, you need an Umrah permit on the Nusuk app before you go to the Haram for Umrah.
• Umrah closes for Hajj: every year Saudi Arabia stops new Umrah permits for a few weeks before Hajj. In 2025 this started on 1 Dhul Qadah. In 2027 this is expected around 7 or 8 April.

Umrah in the Easter School Holidays

Easter Umrah is a lovely way to teach children about their faith. They walk where the Prophet ﷺ walked, pray in Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi, and come home with memories for life – all without missing a day of school.

• Family rooms: we book rooms for 3 or 4 people so you can stay together and pay less per person.
• Hotels near the Haram: children get tired quickly in the warm weather, so being close helps.
• Umrah early in the trip: we plan your Umrah for your first day or two in Makkah.
• Visas for everyone: we apply for every family member, including babies.

Easter Umrah for Elderly Parents

For older pilgrims, we suggest a 5 star hotel next to the Haram so they can rest between prayers. You can borrow a wheelchair at the Haram or hire an electric cart for Tawaf and Sa'i. Doing Tawaf after Fajr or late in the evening avoids the hottest part of the day.

Weather in Makkah and Madinah at Easter

Easter weather in Saudi Arabia is warmer than in winter, but not as hot as summer.

Our tip: perform Tawaf and Sa'i early in the morning or after Isha, drink plenty of Zamzam water, and bring sun cream, a cap for children and light cotton clothes.

Easter Umrah Flights from UK Airports

For Easter, you can take a direct Saudia flight to Jeddah from Heathrow, Manchester or Birmingham, which takes about 6 to 6½ hours. From early 2027, Saudia plans more flights from Manchester. From other airports, we book one-stop flights through Istanbul, Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Flights around the Easter bank holiday weekend are some of the busiest of the year, so we suggest booking at least 4 months ahead. Flying on Good Friday or Easter Sunday itself can sometimes be cheaper than the days around them.

Hotels in Makkah and Madinah for Easter Umrah

After Ramadan, many hotels near the Haram have more rooms available, so Easter can be a good time to get a closer hotel for your budget. In Makkah, 5 star hotels are in the Clock Tower and Jabal Omar areas next to the Haram. 4 star hotels are mostly in the Ajyad and Ibrahim Al Khalil areas. In Madinah, most hotels are only a short walk from Masjid an-Nabawi. All our hotels are approved on Saudi Arabia's Nusuk system.

Easter Umrah After Ramadan – Umrah in Shawwal

Easter 2027 falls in Shawwal, the month after Ramadan. This brings some real benefits:

• The Haram is much less crowded than in Ramadan, so Tawaf is easier.
• Hotel prices near the Haram are lower than in Ramadan.
• You can fast some of the six days of Shawwal in the holy cities.
• The Rawdah in Madinah is usually easier to book than in Ramadan.
